I’m not someone who talks about politics a lot. I usually stay quiet when people bring up government policies or news headlines. But lately, what I see happening in the United States has made me speak up. It’s not about being left or right, Democrat or Republican. It’s about what is right and what is wrong. And what I’m seeing now looks wrong. What’s happening today is the result of failed open border policies.
Let me be clear: every nation has the right to protect its borders. Every country has its own culture, values, and rules. When a country opens its borders to anyone without proper checks, it creates disorder. It’s not just about immigration—it’s about safety, law, and the survival of a nation’s way of life.
What Are Open Borders?
Open borders mean allowing people to enter a country without strict checks. It’s like leaving your front door open at night and saying, “Anyone can come in.” That sounds kind and welcoming, but in reality, it is dangerous. Yes, some people who enter may just want a better life. But others may bring harm. Criminals, drug dealers, human traffickers, and terrorists can take advantage of a weak system.
In the Bible, even ancient cities had walls and gates. Nehemiah, for example, worked hard to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem for the safety of its people (Nehemiah 2:17). Why did they build walls? Because a city without walls was open to attack and destruction. Proverbs 25:28 says, “Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.” This verse teaches us that protection and order are wise, not evil.
The Result of No Borders
What happens when a country allows anyone to come in, without knowing who they are or what their intentions are? You get chaos. And that’s exactly what many communities in the U.S. are feeling right now.
We see news reports of violent crimes committed by people who crossed the border illegally. Not all immigrants are criminals—but when a country does not screen who enters, it puts its citizens at risk. Even one act of violence caused by a preventable failure in the system is too much.
God teaches us to love our neighbor, but He also teaches us to obey laws and honor authority (Romans 13:1-4). The government exists to protect its people. If leaders fail to do that, they are not fulfilling their God-given role. Romans 13:4 says, “For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason.”
When leaders allow unsafe policies, they are failing to protect their people. And when borders are wide open, crime increases, resources are stretched thin, and social trust breaks down.
The Impact on Everyday People
Let’s talk about regular people—mothers, fathers, students, workers. They are the ones who suffer when policies fail. Hospitals become overcrowded. Schools can’t handle the extra students. Jobs become harder to find. Some neighborhoods are seeing higher crime. And what’s worse, those who try to speak out are often called hateful or racist.
But it’s not about hate. It’s about truth. The Bible tells us to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15). Speaking about safety, law, and order is not unloving. In fact, it is the loving thing to do—to protect your family, your community, and your country.
Imagine a home. Every home has rules. Parents don’t let strangers walk in off the street and live there. Why? Because they have to protect their children and provide order. A country is like a bigger home. It must know who is coming in, why they are coming, and whether they are willing to follow the rules.
Compassion and Order Can Go Together
Some people say, “But what about showing love? Didn’t Jesus welcome everyone?” Yes, Jesus showed love to everyone. But He also spoke hard truths and called for change. He didn’t tell sinners to stay in sin. He said, “Go and sin no more” (John 8:11). True love includes responsibility.
It’s not unloving to require people to enter a country legally. It’s actually wise and just. The Bible says in Leviticus 19:34, “The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself.” But this does not mean allowing lawlessness. Even foreigners had to follow the laws of Israel.
We can have compassion without sacrificing safety. We can welcome immigrants the right way—through legal and fair processes. That’s how we protect both citizens and those who seek a new life.
America’s Identity is at Risk
America was built on values: hard work, faith, freedom, and law. But when people come in without sharing those values, there is a culture clash. It’s like mixing oil and water. Each group may have good intentions, but without a shared foundation, things fall apart.
The Tower of Babel in Genesis 11 shows us what happens when people are divided by language and culture without a common purpose. God scattered them because they were building something that went against His will. A nation must be united in values and direction. Otherwise, confusion and division take over.
Pray for Wisdom and Bold Leadership
This is not about hating anyone. It’s about protecting what is good. The Bible tells us to pray for our leaders (1 Timothy 2:1-2). We need leaders with wisdom and courage to make hard decisions—not just popular ones.
God’s people are called to be a light in dark times. That means standing for truth, even when it’s not easy. Isaiah 5:20 warns, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil.” Today, standing for strong borders and law may be unpopular, but it is right.
Conclusion
We must protect our homes, our families, and our nation. Open borders without proper checks are not loving—they are dangerous. Every nation has the right and duty to protect itself. That includes the United States.
It’s not about rejecting people—it’s about welcoming them the right way. Just as God calls us to live with wisdom and order, we must expect the same for our country. We need secure borders, fair laws, and strong leadership. Only then can we be both safe and compassionate.
Let’s pray for America. Let’s speak truth in love. And let’s stand for what is right, even when the world calls it wrong.
