I Don’t Know About You, But I Think People Are Getting Dumber and Dumber

Have you ever turned on the TV or scrolled through social media and thought, “What happened to the world?” I don’t know about you, but I think people are getting dumber and dumber. Not just in the way they think, but also in the way they act, talk, and live their lives.

We used to admire people with strong morals, wisdom, and character—like our grandparents, teachers, pastors, or leaders who lived by the Bible and valued family, faith, and honesty. But now, many of the people our kids look up to are celebrities who don’t live by any values at all. They live for money, fame, and attention.

Look at some of the “heroes” of today. People worship the Kardashians or the “Real Housewives” shows. They watch hours of reality TV where people fight, cheat, lie, and sleep with different partners like it’s no big deal. These are not the kind of people we should be following. These are not role models.

Some people say, “Well, it’s just entertainment.” But let’s be honest. Entertainment shapes minds—especially young minds. If kids watch this stuff every day, they start thinking it’s normal. They start thinking it’s okay to live together without getting married first. They start believing it’s fine to have babies outside of marriage. They begin to think drugs, drinking, and wild behavior are just “fun” things to do.

But what does God say about these things?

God’s Word Still Matters

The Bible tells us to live holy lives. It warns us not to follow the ways of the world. Romans 12:2 says, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” That means we are not supposed to do what everyone else is doing. We are supposed to think differently. Live differently. Act differently.

Marriage still matters to God. Hebrews 13:4 says, “Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.” But today, people don’t want to wait for marriage. They say, “Why get married? Let’s just live together.” But when we live like that, we are not honoring God.

God designed sex to be something beautiful between a husband and wife. Not something casual, not something we do just because we feel like it. 1 Corinthians 6:18 says, “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually sins against their own body.”

This message isn’t just for adults—it’s also for our kids and teens. If they grow up thinking it’s okay to sleep around or to have kids without a solid home, what kind of future are we building? A house without a foundation will fall. And a family without God is like a house built on sand.

The Truth About Identity

Another thing that’s become confusing today is identity. More and more, we hear people say, “I was born a man, but I feel like a woman,” or “I was born a woman, but I want to be a man.”

Now let me be clear—I’m not saying this to be hateful. As Christians, we should never hate anyone. But we must speak truth in love. And the truth is, God created us male and female for a reason. Genesis 1:27 says, “So God created mankind in his own image... male and female he created them.”

When we start changing our God-given identity, we are saying, “God made a mistake.” But God doesn’t make mistakes. Psalm 139:14 says, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

God made you with purpose. You were born the way you are for a reason. And no matter how confused the world gets, God’s design does not change.

A Society Without Boundaries

What we’re seeing today is a society without boundaries. Everyone is doing whatever feels right to them. There is no respect for elders, no honor in marriage, and no fear of God.

Isaiah 5:20 warns us about this: “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness.” Doesn’t that sound like today? Things that used to be wrong are now praised. And things that used to be good—like faith, purity, or waiting for marriage—are now made fun of.

When we remove God’s standards, chaos follows. Look around—rising divorce rates, broken families, violence, depression, confusion. It’s not getting better. It’s getting worse.

What Can We Do About It?

It’s easy to feel helpless. But we can’t give up. We are called to be the light of the world (Matthew 5:14). That means we must speak truth, live with integrity, and raise our children with strong values.

Start by turning off shows that dishonor God. Choose role models who live with purpose, not just popularity. Teach your kids what the Bible says, not just what the world shows.

And most importantly, pray. Pray for our country. Pray for our children. Pray for truth to rise again in our schools, in our churches, and in our homes.

Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” That’s our job. To train. To teach. To model what it means to live for God.

We may not be able to fix the whole world, but we can start with our own homes. We can be the example others need to see. We can stand strong, even when it feels like we’re standing alone.

Final Thoughts

I don’t know about you, but I miss the days when people had common sense. When people valued family, honored marriage, and feared God. Maybe we can’t turn back time, but we can decide how we live today.

Let’s stop following fake celebrities and start following Jesus. Let’s teach our kids what’s right—not just what’s trendy. Let’s build our lives on truth, not on TV drama.

Because no matter how popular sin becomes, truth will always stand.
