Holiday Scams Alert: Protect Your Money This Season

The holiday season is here, and so are the scammers. Every year, criminals try to trick people during holidays because they know people are busy, excited, and sometimes not careful. Scammers are everywhere—on the phone, in emails, in text messages, and even on social media. Their main goal is to steal your money, your personal information, and your peace of mind.

Do not trust anyone who calls you or sends you a message out of the blue. Many scammers pretend to be from the bank, government, or even a well-known company. They may try to scare you or make you feel special to get you to act quickly. Remember, a real bank or company will never ask for your password or PIN over the phone.

Do not click on links in emails or messages you did not expect. Scammers often send fake emails or text messages that look real. When you click on the link, they may install harmful software on your phone or computer. This can steal your banking information, personal photos, and passwords. Proverbs 22:3 says, “The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.” Being careful now can save you from a big loss later.

Social media is another place where scammers work. They often steal other people’s photos and create fake accounts. They may try to connect with you and build trust. Do not accept friend requests from people you do not know, and do not share personal information online. Matthew 10:16 says, “Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.” Use wisdom when connecting online.

Scammers come from different countries, including India, Malaysia, Singapore, Nigeria, and other places. They are criminals, low life thieves, and scoundrels. Their goal is clear: to drain your bank account. They do not care about your feelings, your family, or your holiday joy. They only want your money. Psalm 37:1-2 reminds us, “Do not fret because of evildoers; do not be envious of the wicked, for they will soon fade like the grass and wither like the green herb.”

The best way to protect yourself is to be alert. Do not give out personal information, do not trust strangers on the phone, email, or social media, and always double-check before making a payment or clicking a link. Keep your devices updated and use strong passwords. Share this advice with your family and friends so they can stay safe too.

This holiday season, enjoy the celebrations, but remember to stay wise and cautious. Protect your money, your information, and your peace. Being careful is not being fearful—it is being smart and trusting God to guide your steps. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

Stay alert, pray for protection, and enjoy the holidays safely.
