Tithing is one of the most powerful spiritual principles for living a prosperous and blessed life. It means giving back to God 10% of what we earn. For many people, this can be hard—especially when bills, debts, and daily expenses seem endless. But I want to share why tithing is truly the key to a prosperous life and how it opens the door for God’s blessings.
I work in finance and talk to people every day about money. Many of them are struggling. Some cry because no matter how hard they work, they never seem to have enough at the end of the month. I’ve been there too. I understand how it feels when you look at your paycheck and think, “How can I give 10% when I can barely cover my bills?” But I’ve learned that when we put God first in our finances, something powerful happens.
The Bible says in Malachi 3:10 (NIV):
"Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the Lord Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it."
This is the only place in the Bible where God says, “Test Me.” He is inviting us to trust Him with our money. When we tithe, we are saying, “God, I trust You more than my paycheck. You are my provider.”
Many people think tithing is just about giving money to the church. But it’s more than that—it’s an act of worship and obedience. It’s a way to show God that we believe everything we have comes from Him. When we tithe, we shift from a mindset of scarcity to one of abundance.
I’ve seen people who tithe experience peace even in hard times. It’s not always about instant riches, but about living under God’s favor. He blesses our work, gives us wisdom to manage money better, and provides in unexpected ways. Sometimes blessings come as good health, restored relationships, or new opportunities.
Proverbs 3:9–10 (NIV) says:
"Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine."
God promises that when we honor Him first, He will take care of the rest. The act of giving opens the door for His blessings to flow freely into our lives.
As you start the new year, make a decision to trust God with your finances. Even if it feels impossible, start where you are. Give with a cheerful heart, and you will see His faithfulness.
Remember, tithing is not about losing money—it’s about gaining peace, faith, and favor. When you put God first, He multiplies what’s left and turns it into more than enough. That’s the secret to a prosperous life: trusting God through tithing and watching Him provide beyond what you could ever imagine.
