God Didn't Say You Have to Abuse His Animals – Stop Pet Cruelty and Neglect

As human beings, we are entrusted with many responsibilities, and one of the most important is how we treat animals. They are not just creatures that live alongside us—they are living beings created by God, each with a purpose, just like us. Unfortunately, some people seem to forget this, and in doing so, they end up abusing and neglecting the animals in their care. This is a tragedy, and it deeply saddens me to see how animals are treated by some people. I can't stand when people abandon their pets, starve them, or dump them in the middle of the road as if they were trash.

When we talk about pets, especially dogs and cats, it’s easy to think of the cute little puppies and kittens. They are adorable, playful, and bring joy to our lives. But as they grow older, they also require more care and responsibility. Just because a pet is cute when it’s small doesn’t mean that it will stay small forever. Pets grow up, and with that growth comes the need for consistent attention, proper nutrition, and a safe, loving environment.

God did not create animals for us to harm or abandon. The Bible teaches us that God sees everything we do, including how we treat the creatures He created. In Proverbs 12:10, it says, "The righteous care for the needs of their animals, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel." This verse reminds us that it is our duty, as stewards of God’s creation, to care for the animals in our lives. They depend on us for love, food, and shelter, and it is our responsibility to provide for them.

It’s hard to comprehend why some people choose to neglect or mistreat their pets. Abandoning an animal, especially in a place where it is likely to suffer, is not only heartless but also a direct violation of God’s teachings. Imagine the fear and confusion a pet feels when it’s left alone, hungry, and exposed to the dangers of the world. Whether it’s a dog left to wander the streets or a cat dumped in a remote area, these animals are innocent and deserve better.

Some people may argue that they can’t afford to care for their pets or that they didn’t realize how much responsibility it would take. But this is not an excuse. Before getting a pet, one must think carefully about whether they are truly able to take on the responsibility. A pet is not just a toy or a status symbol; it’s a living being that depends on us for everything, from food to medical care. If someone is struggling to care for themselves or their family, it is not wise to take on the responsibility of a pet. Pets should not be seen as accessories or disposable objects—they are part of God’s creation, and He expects us to treat them with love and respect.

There are always options for those who find themselves in difficult situations. If you are no longer able to care for your pet, there are animal shelters, rescue groups, and adoption services that can help. Abandoning an animal is never the answer. God sees everything we do, and He knows when we make choices that harm His creation. He calls us to be compassionate and responsible, not just for our own well-being but for the well-being of all living creatures.

The Bible also teaches us in Genesis 1:26 that God gave us dominion over the earth and its creatures. But dominion does not mean domination. It means that we are to care for and nurture the earth and the animals that live on it. As caretakers, we must make choices that honor God by showing love, kindness, and respect to the creatures He created. When we choose to neglect or abuse animals, we are not living out the purpose God intended for us.

Animals have feelings too. They can feel fear, pain, and loneliness, just like humans can. When a pet is neglected, it is not only physically harmed but emotionally damaged as well. A dog that is left in a backyard without attention can become anxious and fearful, while a cat that is constantly hungry may grow weak and lethargic. The harm caused by neglect is not always visible, but it is real. These animals rely on us to meet their basic needs and to provide them with a sense of security and love.

Abuse of any kind is not acceptable, whether it’s physical, emotional, or psychological. It’s time for us to stop turning a blind eye to the suffering of animals. We must take a stand against cruelty in all its forms, whether it’s through reporting cases of abuse or through adopting a pet from a shelter and giving them a loving home. Every action we take toward ending animal cruelty is a step toward honoring God’s creation.

If you are thinking about getting a pet, ask yourself if you are truly ready for the responsibility. Do you have the time, energy, and resources to care for an animal throughout its entire life? If not, it’s better to wait until you are ready. It’s also important to remember that adopting a pet is a lifelong commitment. Animals may live for many years, and during that time, they will need your care, love, and attention. Don’t get a pet unless you are prepared to care for it throughout its entire life, from puppy or kitten to senior pet.

If you already have a pet, consider how you can improve their life. Are you providing them with the nutrition, care, and love they deserve? Are you treating them with the respect they need to feel safe and happy? If not, it’s time to make a change. God sees how you treat your pets, and He cares deeply about their well-being. As Christians, we are called to be good stewards of all of God’s creation, including the animals He has entrusted to us.

In conclusion, God did not say that we should abuse His animals. In fact, He calls us to treat them with kindness, respect, and compassion. If you are not able to care for a pet, it’s better to wait until you can or to consider other options, such as adoption or rehoming. We must stop the cruelty and take responsibility for the animals in our care. Remember that God sees everything, and He expects us to treat His creation with love and respect. Let’s honor Him by showing love and care to the animals He has entrusted to us.
