Love, Respect, and Faith: Why Jesus and Kindness Matter for Animals and People

This photo is in China.

As an animal advocate, I get furious when I see people abandon, abuse, or neglect animals. I believe every animal has a purpose and a right to live a life free from harm. It hurts me deeply when I hear about what happens in some parts of the world, especially in certain Asian countries like China, where people still eat dogs. Dogs are not food—they are loving, loyal creatures created by God.

In many of these places, animals are treated badly. They are tied up, beaten, starved, and killed in the most painful ways. It's hard to understand how anyone could look into the eyes of a dog and still do such terrible things. Animals feel pain, fear, and sadness. They also feel love. Just like us.

In the Bible, Proverbs 12:10 says:

“The righteous care for the needs of their animals, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel.” This means that when we love God, we also take care of His creation, including animals. If someone is cruel to animals, it shows what’s in their heart. A heart far from God does not show love, kindness, or compassion.

I’ve noticed something over the years. Many people who hurt animals or live with no care for others also don’t know Jesus Christ. They live life with no purpose. They go from one struggle to another, never finding peace. I’ve seen people work hard every day, only to live paycheck to paycheck. Their relationships are broken, and their hearts are empty. Some bounce from one partner to the next, having children out of wedlock, and the cycle of pain continues.

But here's the truth: When you give your life to Jesus, everything changes. It doesn’t mean your problems go away. You will still face struggles. But when you do, you’ll know who to turn to. Jesus gives peace, hope, and direction. He fills the empty places in your heart and teaches you how to love—not just people, but animals too.

Jesus said in John 10:10:

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” A full life means one filled with love, peace, and purpose. It means knowing you’re not alone. It means learning to care for others—even the voiceless, like animals.

When someone submits their life to Jesus, He starts changing them from the inside out. Their heart softens. Their thinking becomes clearer. They begin to care for others, including animals. They stop chasing after the things of this world—money, sex, power—and start chasing after truth, love, and righteousness.

Romans 12:2 reminds us:

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” The world teaches us to think only of ourselves. But God teaches us to love others, to protect the weak, and to live with compassion. That includes protecting animals who cannot protect themselves.

Abuse, neglect, and cruelty are signs of a heart without God. I have seen how cruel people can be—not just to animals but to other people too. But I also know this: no one is too far gone for Jesus. He can change even the hardest heart. He can turn an animal abuser into an animal rescuer. He can turn a broken person into someone who brings healing to others.

God’s love is powerful. His mercy is great. When we accept Jesus, we become new.

2 Corinthians 5:17 says:

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” This is what the world needs. Not more money. Not more rules. But more of Jesus. More love. More kindness. More understanding of God’s purpose for our lives and for His creation.

As an animal lover and Christian, I believe we have a responsibility. Not just to speak out against animal cruelty but to share the love of Jesus with others. Because when people come to know Jesus, their lives—and their actions—begin to reflect His love.

Imagine a world where people truly loved one another. Where they didn’t hurt animals, didn’t abandon them, didn’t eat them. Imagine a world where families were whole, children were raised in loving homes, and people lived in peace with one another. This is not a dream. This is what God wants for us.

But it starts with faith. It starts with Jesus.

So if you’re reading this and you feel angry at the way animals are treated… if your heart breaks when you see abuse… if you’re tired of the way the world is living with no respect for life—you’re not alone. God placed that passion in your heart for a reason. Use it. Speak out. Help rescue animals. Be the voice for the voiceless. But more than that, share the gospel. Because true change begins in the heart.

Let us be the light in this dark world. Let us show people that there is a better way. A way filled with hope, truth, and love.

Matthew 5:14-16 says:

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. … Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

So shine your light. Help the animals. Love the people. Speak the truth. And never forget: Jesus is the answer.
