God Puts Leaders in Place for a Reason

I am not into politics. But when I look at what is happening in our country, the United States of America, it is truly sad. We have a new President who is trying to make the country a better place, yet so many people hate him. It seems like no matter who is in leadership, there are always people who will disagree and even attack them. But one thing we must remember is that God is the one who allows leaders to rise and fall. He has a plan for everything, even when we do not understand it.

Many people argue about politics every day. Some people say the President is doing a great job, while others say he is ruining the country. But as Christians, we must remember that no leader is in power without God allowing it. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 16:9, "In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps." This means that while leaders may make decisions, it is ultimately God who guides their steps.

God’s Sovereignty Over Leadership

God is in control of all things, including the leaders of nations. We may not always agree with the decisions they make, but we must trust that God has a purpose. Romans 13:1 says, "Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God." This verse makes it clear that leaders do not rise to power by accident. God is the one who allows them to be in that position.

Sometimes, we may feel frustrated with our leaders. We may not understand why certain laws are passed or why things are happening the way they are. But we must remember that God's ways are higher than ours. Isaiah 55:8-9 says, "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the Lord. "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts." This reminds us that even when things seem uncertain, God is still in control.

Praying for Our Leaders

Instead of complaining about our leaders, we should pray for them. 1 Timothy 2:1-2 says, "I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness." This means that as Christians, we should pray for those in leadership, regardless of whether we like them or not. They need wisdom, strength, and guidance from God to make the right decisions.

When we pray for our leaders, we invite God to work in their hearts. We should ask God to give them wisdom, protection, and a heart that seeks justice and righteousness. We should also pray that God’s will be done in our nation, no matter what happens.

God Uses Leaders for His Purpose

Throughout history, God has used leaders—both good and bad—to accomplish His purpose. In the Bible, we see examples of kings and rulers who did not always follow God, yet He still used them for His plans.

One example is King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. He was a powerful ruler who did not initially acknowledge God, but God used him to accomplish His purpose. In Daniel 4:17, it says, "The decision is announced by messengers, the holy ones declare the verdict, so that the living may know that the Most High is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone he wishes and sets over them the lowliest of people." This verse shows that God decides who will rule and for how long.

Another example is Pharaoh in the book of Exodus. He was a harsh leader who refused to let the Israelites go. Yet, God used Pharaoh’s stubbornness to show His power through miracles and ultimately lead His people to freedom. Exodus 9:16 says, "But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth." Even though Pharaoh was against God’s people, God still had a reason for allowing him to be in power.

Trusting in God’s Plan

It is easy to feel hopeless when we see division and anger in our country. People fight over politics, friendships are broken, and families are divided over who they support. But as believers, we must trust in God's plan. No matter who is in office, God’s will is greater. Psalm 22:28 says, "For dominion belongs to the Lord and he rules over the nations." This reminds us that no human leader has ultimate control—only God does.

We should not put our hope in politicians or government systems. Instead, we should put our hope in God. Psalm 146:3-4 warns us, "Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing." Leaders will come and go, but God remains forever. He is our true King and ruler.

Loving Others Despite Differences

In today’s world, people argue over politics more than ever. Families fight, friendships break, and even churches become divided because of political opinions. But Jesus calls us to love one another, no matter our differences. John 13:34-35 says, "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

We should not let political differences make us hate each other. Instead, we should focus on what unites us—our faith in God. The enemy wants to divide us, but God calls us to be peacemakers. Matthew 5:9 says, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God." Instead of fighting, we should show love and kindness to those who think differently than us.

Conclusion

No matter what happens in our country, we must remember that God is in control. He puts leaders in place for a reason, even if we do not understand it. Instead of arguing about politics, we should pray for our leaders and trust in God's plan. The Bible reminds us to submit to authority, pray for those in power, and love one another despite our differences.

As Christians, our hope is not in human leaders but in Jesus Christ. Leaders will change, but God remains the same. Instead of focusing on the problems in our nation, let us fix our eyes on God, trust in His sovereignty, and be a light in the world.

Let us remember Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." God is guiding everything, and we must trust Him in all things, including who is in leadership. Amen.
